Friday of the Passion of the LordAPRIL 18, 2025 | SAINT JAMES OF THE MARCHES CHURCH, TOTOWA NJ |
HI EVERYONEATTACHED IS THE HYMN LIST FOR GOOD FRIDAY, 04/18/25, LITURGY OF THE WORD, VENERATION OF THE CROSS, HOLY EUCHARIST. |
1. The Glory to God is omitted on Good Friday. 2. For the Psalm, we will sing PSALM 31: FATHER, INTO YOUR HANDS I COMMEND MY SPIRIT. (LAROSA SETTING). NOTE: The cantor alone will be singing the very last refrain after the last verse to the psalm. 3. For the Gospel Acclamation, we will be using R&A pg.69 / BB p.119. Verse: "CHRIST BECAME OBEDIENT TO THE POINT OF DEATH, EVEN DEATH ON A CROSS. BECAUSE OF THIS, GOD GREATLY EXALTED HIM AND BESTOWED ON HIM THE NAME WHICH IS ABOVE EVERY OTHER NAME. Please note: the recording of the Gospel Acclamation below is taken from Palm Sunday. It is exactly the same except that for Good Friday we add on: 'every "OTHER" name' at the end of the verse. 4. Keep in mind that the recordings below are just meant to familiarize you even more with the hymns and to get a general feel for them. However, these recordings may not be exactly representative of how we will be singing them. As we had spoken before, it is always best to record your individual parts at rehearsal or have me play them while you record them on your phone. 4. The Good Friday service is composed only of the Liturgy of the Word and Eucharist, it is not considered a mass. Therefore there will be no sung mass parts. 5. The Lenten Season is a penitential season characterized by fasting, alms-giving and frequent silent reflection. The rubrics call for toned down masses and a simplicity of church decoration which fosters deep contemplation and reflection. I ask everyone to be mindful that you do not conduct loud conversations in the minutes leading up to this solemn service. As good music ministers, we should encourage others to observe this reverence as well. Thank you all for understanding and for bringing everyone closer to Jesus in this, the moment solemn time of the church year. Thanks Everyone Andrew |
