Come and join the fun! Making music together is an expression of our shared worship, and just a great way to meet and get to know others in the St. James Church community, all while helping to lead the gathered assembly in songs of worship.
Perhaps you have great music memories of singing in choir in High School, or belonging to a Glee Club in college. If so, consider joining our adult choir, which is comprised of both men and women volunteers ages 16 and up. Why not give us a “test run” and sit in on a rehearsal “under no obligation.” It's a wonderful opportunity to sing great choral literature, meet new friends, and spend some time "feeding your soul." We guarantee you'll leave feeling refreshed and renewed. Not only does our adult choir sing for the 12:00 Noon service on Sundays, we also sing special services throughout the year such as Lent, Holy Week, Easter, Advent and Christmas Eve.
The Adult Choir practice schedule is as follows:
First Practices will be Thursday September 16, 30 and October 11 from 7:00 - 8:00 PM in the Choir Loft
Every Sunday at 11:15 AM in the Choir Loft
Every 2nd Thursday of the month at 7:00 PM in the Choir Loft
The Children’s Choir at St. James offers children the opportunity to lead worship through music. Choir members learn a wide variety of music, grow in their faith, and develop vocal and musical skills to open up a lifetime of joyful music making. The Children’s Choir has the important role of serving the church and the community at an early age.
All children in Grades 3 through 8 are welcome to join the Children's Choir. The Children's Choir sings every Sunday during the 10:15 AM Mass. At times, the Children's Choirs joins the Adult Choir for special event liturgies.
The Children's Choir practice schedule is as follows:
First Practice will be Thursday, September 16 from 6:00 - 6:45 PM in the Choir Loft.
Every 2nd Thursday of the month at 6:00 PM in the Choir Loft
Every Sunday at 9:30 AM in the Choir Loft
Anyone interested in becoming a member of our Choir may apply by calling the Rectory at (973) 790-0288 or filling out the Adult or Children's Choir Form and dropping it off at the Rectory (32 St. James Place, Totowa).
Jim is originally from Milford, CT - the same town as our outgoing Music Director, Jeannine! Jim was a classical piano major at the University of Bridgeport. After teaching elementary school for eight years, he moved to NYC to pursue a music career, and spent the next 10 years as a full time pianist there. Eventually, he married and left that career track in favor of the more reasonable hours and lifestyle of | |
liturgical music. Jim has been a music director in Avenel, The Bronx, Cedar Knolls, Linden, and Montclair. Jim is excited and honored to become a member of the St. James' parish family. Outside the Catholic Music world, Jim's passions are his three teenage daughters, fitness, reading, home recording, and all other kinds of music. |
